What Are Graphs?
Graphs are special pictures that help us understand numbers and information!
Just like how you can tell a story with pictures, graphs tell number stories. They help us see which things are more, which are less, and how things compare to each other.
How to Read a Simple Graph
1️⃣ Look at the pictures - What do you see? (apples, dogs, toys?)
2️⃣ Count the items - How many of each thing are there?
3️⃣ Compare them - Which has the most? Which has the least?
Let's Practice Together!
Example 1: Favorite Fruits
Let's look at a bar graph showing which fruits your friends like best!
Which fruit is the most popular?
How many friends like apples?
Example 2: Pets at Home
Now let's look at a pictograph showing pets your classmates have!
Which pet is shown the most?
Are there more cats or fish?
Parent Tips 🌟
- Make it real: Create simple graphs using your child's toys or snacks. Line up stuffed animals by color or make a bar graph with cereal pieces!
- Graph daily activities: Track the weather each day with a simple chart using sun, cloud, and rain stickers.
- Ask comparison questions: "Do we have more red blocks or blue blocks?" "Did we eat more apples or bananas this week?"
